Azorean Wine Tasting
Azores: a region of increasingly appreciated and recognized wines
Although the island most representative of wine production in the Azores is Pico, several islands produce wine, particularly white wine.
Here, on the island of Faial, Adega do Vulcão owns the only vineyard on the island, with 7 hectares of native grape varieties planted on the ashes of the Capelinhos Volcano eruption. You can book a wine tasting in the restored historic winery and a guided tour of the vineyards, overlooking the ocean and the volcano.
Azorean wines can be sampled in the island’s cafés and restaurants. In the city of Horta, Cantinho das Provas is a venue specialising in regional wines, where you can sample wines by the glass or bottle, accompanied by a variety of snacks.
The venue also allows you to purchase bottles to take away. It provides an opportunity to learn more about wine production in the Azores and the characteristics and specificities of each island’s wines.
