Enjoy the Local Food
Try the Island's specialties
From bread to wine and from starters to dessert, with a special place set aside for fish, beef, and pork, Azorean cuisine has a flavor all of its own.
The specialties of Faial are fish, shellfish such as limpets, beef, pork, sausages, black pudding, yams, sweet potatoes, subtropical fruits, jams, cookies, fruit cake, massa sovada, corn bread, wine, and liqueurs, the latter mostly from Pico.
The largest concentration of restaurants, cafes, and pastry shops is in Horta. However, you will find excellent places for lunch or dinner all around the island and each with its own specialties.
We always recommend you book before you go, especially during the summer months.
