Fajã Beach
Fajã beach is a hidden treasure on the north side of the island of wild beauty. It is a magnificent black sandy beach, framed by high cliffs.
The quality of the sea water and the location are exceptional. It is an unsupervised beach and the sea is usually rougher especially from August on. It is also the beach of choice for surfing in Faial.
During the summer, a small natural pool is formed between the rocks on the sand. There are changing rooms, picnic area with barbecue and playground in the vicinity.
It is a very pleasant region to walk in any season. Take a walk on the path along the sea connecting the beach to the harbor, and explore the paths and alleyways of Fajã.
There is also the circular trail of Rocha da Fajã that descends the beautiful slopes of the northern side of the island passing through areas of forest, orchards and vineyards before it reaches the beach.
