Faial: capital of the Trail Running in Azores
Trail running is a very common activity practiced by locals and tourists who visit Faial all year round. The Azores Trail Run® started in Faial and is where two of its most important trail running competitions take place every year with great international interest: the Whalers’ Great Route Ultra-Trail® and the Triangle Adventure. In 2020, Faial was the chosen location for the Golden Trail Championship organized by Salomon and Azores Trail Run®.
The island of Faial has excellent conditions for the practice of this
sport, providing trails with different types of terrain – rock, dirt, mud, and sand. The island also offers variations in altitude and a variety of landscapes, such as the unique experience of running on the perimeter of a volcano crater. The trails are safe and easy to access.
