If you are visiting Faial Island, you should not miss out the opportunity of visiting Casa dos Botes [Whaler Boat’s House], in Capelo, that tells an important part of the history and culture of the island and of the Azores. Now, this museum space is open every day with extended hours: until September 30, from you can do visits between 10 am and 6 pm.

Here you can observe an old whaling boat and an exhibition that allow you to get to know one of the most dangerous and heroic crafts in the Azorean tradition, essential not only for the economy of families, but also for the island industry: Whaling.

Casa dos Botes was recovered by the Parish of Capelo, in 2011, and is located in Porto do Comprido, the most important sperm whale hunting post on Faial Island, nearby Capelinhos Volcano.
